Even the Arena of Verona starts again safely!

What would summer be in the City of Love without concerts, the opera, the illuminated stage in the most loved amphitheater in the world? Verona and its Arena are celebrating the great news that marks the beginning of the rebirth: government authorities have approved an extraordinary security protocol to allow 6,000 spectators to attend the concerts in total safety inside the Roman Arena.
It’s here in Verona that, together with the Fairs in attendance live shows in Italy are starting over; here, where opera has won the hearts of music lovers from all over the world. This is the place where the best international singers and groups aspire to perform every summer: Verona, capital of music, will be the city of the restart, in the name of the absolute safety of audience and artists, thanks to rigorous and detailed rules.

The kick-off will be Saturday 5 June with the performance of Il Volo, a profound tribute to Ennio Morricone: an event that will be broadcast live on television all over the world, almost a year after the Maestro passed away. Music legends in dreamy atmosphere accompanied by the orchestra directed by Maestro Marcello Rota.
Immediately after it is Emma‘s turn who booked the Arena to celebrate her 10 years (+1!) Career with three shows: 6, 7 and 8 June, retracing her most famous songs and presenting live the latest singles.
On July 4th, Francesco Gabbani will then make the audience sing to the rhythm of his music.

And then, of course, the great opera returns to the iconic amphitheater of the city: Verdi’s Aida, which has reached its 150th anniversary this year, in an unmissable show in the form of a concert directed by Maestro Riccardo Muti, inaugurates the festival of it operates with two Première Galas, on June 19th, and then again after three days, on June 22nd. The Aida with the traditional scenographic set-up is instead scheduled for June 26th, July 1st, 9th, 15th and 21st, August 4th, 8th, 12th, 21st and 27th and September 4th.

Then a new show, directed by Marco Amiliato and in a new staging curated by the world-renowned award-winning film director Gabriele Muccino: Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci, on 25 June, 2, 22, 31 July and 14 August also allows Katia Ricciarelli, in a starring role, the return to the Arena.
The lyric drama of Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco is staged on July 3, 17 and 24, then returns on August 6, 13, 20 and 26 and, finally, on September 1.
Another famous opera by Verdi, La Traviata, is scheduled in the enchanting scenery of the Arena starting from July, 10th, 16th, 23rd; on 7 and 19 August and 2 September.

A single date, however, to celebrate a sacred work of rare beauty in concert: we are talking about the Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi which has reserved the theater for July 18th.
Left unfinished by Giacomo Puccini and later completed by Franco Alfano, the Turandot, a classic of Italian opera, returns to the Arena on 29 July, 1, 5 and 28 August and 3 September; the first three performances will star the Russian soprano Anna Netrebko, one of the greatest opera divas of today.

To celebrate his 50-year career, Plácido Domingo will perform in a unique unmissable show on July 30th. It will be a unique opportunity to retrace his superstar career, through some of the interpretations that have made him famous all over the world.

On 2 and 3 August the principal dancer of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Roberto Bolle & Friends, goes up on the stage of the millenary Arena for two evenings dedicated to classical ballet and contemporary dance (the evening of 2 August has been added after the sensational sold out of that of August 3).

And that’s not all: the beloved German tenor Jonas Kaufmann will perform for the first time in the Arena on August 17th.
And finally, another unique date, for an event that echoes in the Arena and throughout the city: Beethoven’s 9th Symphony is scheduled for Sunday 22 August.

The health protocol, approved by the Institute of Health (the Italian CDC) provides 6000 spectators spaced and divided as follows: 1196 people in the stalls, 1554 people sitting on lower tier and 3250 people sitting on upper tier. To make access easier while ensuring social distancing, 16 gates will be opened, each manned by control service personnel, with temperature measurement and mask control, which must be of the Ffp2 type.
